MP3MP3 is the file extension for MPEG audio layer 3. Layer 3 is one of the 3 coding schemes (layer 1, layer 2, layer 3) for the compression of audio signals. MP3 files can be embedded into websites to provide music while visitors are viewing the site. MP3 files are quite small compared to other audio files and are therefore suitable for transferring over the internet.
